If You’re Not Serious…Please Step Aside

(July 13, 2026) When your claim is made Active, the first thing that happens is CFSIC sets up a financial reserve for your claim on its books. Yes, that’s right. We set up a reserve for $205,000…which is our cap. As you talk to contractors, and your remediation bid is finalized, that initial reserve of $205,000 is adjusted to what it will really cost to fund your foundation remediation.

But here’s the important thing for everyone to remember.

We’ve set up a reserve for you. That means we’ve set aside the funds. That means, in a positive sense, those funds are being reserved to fund your foundation remediation subject to the Participation Agreement.

But here’s the negative side…if you do nothing more with your claim, if you stop responding to our adjusters, if you don’t answer emails or return phone calls, after all the work you’ve done to get where you are…the reserve we’ve set up for you is actually blocking help needed by another family. Yes, you read that right.

Increasingly, some claimants get very close to getting in line for a Participation Agreement and then get cold feet. Maybe there are personal circumstances. Maybe they simply don’t want to start cleaning out that basement. Maybe it’s just not “convenient.”

To those of you who have gone through a remediation and acted promptly and collaboratively with your adjuster and with the Superintendent’s office, this may sound strange to you. But, on a regular basis, the Superintendent removes victims of the crisis from the line who have just simply “disappeared.”

We think everyone will agree that if you’re serious about restoring the equity in your home, and serious about restoring the structural integrity of your foundation, you’ll follow through with your claim right to the very end. If you’re not serious, you should return our emails and our calls and be frank with us that you have no further intention of continuing.

The Superintendent regularly removes claimants who just stop talking to us and who don’t provide us with any reason why. Don’t let this be you…respond and follow through.
